The Challenge
Luxury watch search is one of the hardest verticals in the UK. Chrono24, Watchfinder, Bucherer and the auction houses hold the national terms, and every serious dealer in the country is fighting for the same handful of brand searches.
Trade Watches were starting from almost nothing. Across the tracked keyword set, they were unranked on nearly every term. The few they did appear for were buried: “sell my watch online london” at #59, “best place to sell watches london” at #50, “luxury watch london” at #16.
The commercial problem was simple. A single Rolex sale is worth more than most businesses make in a quarter. Every enquiry going to a marketplace instead of a dealer is a five-figure margin lost.
What We Did
We went regional before national
Fighting for "sell my Rolex" against the marketplaces is a losing opening move. We built out Essex, Hertfordshire and Kent first, where the same buyers search with a location attached and the competition is a fraction of the strength.
We split buying intent from selling intent
"Buy Cartier watch" and "sell Cartier watch" are two different customers with two different needs. We gave them separate pages and separate content rather than one page trying to do both jobs.
We targeted by brand
Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Cartier and Breitling each have their own search behaviour and their own audience. We built dedicated coverage for each rather than relying on generic luxury watch terms.
We used their stock and their reputation
reputation. Live inventory, 160 five star Google reviews and their Canary Wharf address were all surfaced as trust and relevance signals, which matter more in this category than almost any other.
